On occasion, Sharon writes about her life and her work and shares these writings with the members. It is a chance for members to get to know Sharon on a more personal level. It is an opportunity to understand "the woman behind the curtain." Sharon's writing often gives members a better understanding of how Neighbors evolved and why. It also gives members a better sense of community.
Sharon's Bio
I didn't call myself a writer until 2007, and it was my husband who named me one initially. Writing has been my passion since childhood, though I never dreamed of being able to publish anything until my 40s. I published on my own site and in a local paper, but had never written anything for pay until 2008. Now, it is a critical element of my job and it remains my passion.
I am a middle-aged, happily married woman. I have a teen age son and two step children in their 20s. My parents call me their "flower child", though my friends consider me relatively conservative. I live in Great Falls, VA with our menagerie of cats and dogs and neighboring wildlife. I vacation in New Mexico and Florida at every possible opportunity.
I was born in El Paso, Texas, but was raised just a few miles from where I live now from age 7 until I attended college at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. I taught middle and high school English for a few years, moved to Okinawa, Japan for a few years during a short first marriage. I earned my M.Ed. in Counseling & Personnel Services from University of Maryland, then taught a few more years, then married my current husband.
I worked with Jeffrey for 12 years as co-owner of a remodeling company, and then I started myNeighborsNetwork.com in 2000. In 2003, I turned my hobby into a business and have been running it ever since.
I am an introvert, shy by nature. I love to read, knit, needlepoint, pet my cats, and of course, write.

My Favorite Time of Day
My favorite time of the day is before any words have been spoken. There are no words in my head except for my own. My thoughts don’t swirl yet, and I actually feel a bit of order to them.
Sometimes, like on a Sunday morning, Jeff has already left to go to Wegman’s or to work out at the gym. There are no alarms, no s...

Share a Story with Me
Almost twenty years ago I took my first course for a Masters degree, Crisis Intervention. I studied a Stress chart created by Dr. Thomas and Dr. Richard Rahe. They composed a table of events and the amount of stress they cause. The most interesting feature of this table is that the people they interviewed actually told ...

Simple Grace
Sometimes I feel like all I should do is tell you the books I have been reading and what I loved about them. When I am reading it, it’s all I can focus on and then when I love what I have read, I want everyone to hear about it . . . .
The same goes for when I was reading Simple Grace: Living a Meaningful Life by local ...

Roasted Tomato Soup
Note from Sharon - I don't usually pass along recipes, but Linda Sue's comment just hit me hard, so filled with love and compassion. And if it helps one person, it's worth it.
I wanted to share a very special recipe. I usually make this for friends and family who are going through chemo or other medical treatments - ...

Yoga School Dropout
I never thought that Rev. Run, from Run’s House on MTV, and I would have much in common. But tonight, I found myself in hysterics watching an episode as he tried a yoga class with his brother, Russell Simmons.
The instructor on TV talked warned that “thoughts in your head are poisonous.” Rev. Run’s look at the instru...

I Need You to Pass the Word
I am trying to increase my blog readership for 2009 and I hear from quite a few of you how you have passed some of my blog pieces along to someone you know. So instead of passing it on, would you please consider asking those individuals to sign up directly? It's simple. They just go to www.sharonsnook.com and provide the...

I am an Ostrich
An example of my thought process (that drives Jeff insane).
I saw a photo of an ostrich and that made me think of my 2009 goals. One that I had not yet written down, but had decided to add to my list was that I was going to be less like an ostrich. I am trying to get my head out of the sand when unpleasant things happen...

Traditions
Traditions
All it takes is one instant, one liking, and one statement in our family to create a new tradition. I think it started when Mom took each daughter to the Elizabeth Arden spa in Phoenix, Arizona more than 20 years ago. Once she took us, it became a tradition; each of us spoiled by the week of pampering and ...

Sharon's Annual Christmas Letter
Dearest Friends and Family, December, 2008
I spent a few hours, as usual, working on this year’s letter. I write it in stages, usually going to it each month just to make notes about what happened. I was dreading this year’s because of all the negative events that had passed. I worked through, thought it...
